Cruise Day 2

Sea Day; 3-15-15

We slept until about 7:00 this morning. We sleep so good on cruise ships. There was hardly any movement either so I can't attribute our sleeping so long to the rocking and rolling of the ship!

The diversity on this ship is unreal. All the way from families with little kids to college kids on spring break to people older than us. The spring breakers made such a mess on the deck above the pool (Deck 10) last night, I took pictures after dinner before it was cleaned up. It was disgusting. The deck was so sticky our shoes stuck to it. My pictures don't do the mess justice but you get the idea. These people couldn't even be bothered to put their towels in the cart on their way down the stairs as they walked right past it - talk about lazy. The staff had to bring the hose out and hose down the deck it was so sticky.

We ate breakfast in the Windjammer and then walked a mile on the walking track on Deck 10. By about 9:45 I'd already gotten in my daily step count on my FitBit.

The Cruise Critic Meet & Mingle was held later that morning. I was fortunate enough to win a prize, a bottle of champagne. A lady sitting next to me asked if I wanted to exchange gifts - she had won lunch at Giovanni's. Since we aren't really champagne people, I gladly exchanged prized with her. Her family were from Canada and I assumed they were from Vancouver, B.C. She said no they were from the other side of the country. I then asked why they were Seahawks fans. She said they were from Luke Willson's home town! Go Hawks! Cruise Critic has really changed up their prizes since the last cruise we went on in April 2014. They no longer give out the little blue pouches, or yellow highlighter, etc. They now give out only wine, champagne, gift baskets from the shops, and lunch certificates from the pay-to-eat establishments on the ship.

Since this was a Caribbean cruise, and it was hot and sunny, everyone was outside trying to get as sunburned as they possibly could. Not us, which left all the seating inside on Decks 5 and 6 empty! I was able to quilt on my Seattle Seahawks quilt in peace and quiet with plenty of room to spread out! I also spent a bit of time on the computer. Now that we're Diamond, we get two house of internet for free so I sent an email to mom, Tracy and Kevin & Laura to let them know where we were and how we were doing.

Sometime mid-afternoon, Captain Marek announced that we were stopping because there was a raft adrift on the starboard side of the ship and we needed to stop. A small boat was sent over to check it out. As it turned out, there wasn't anyone in the raft but two big letters were in the bottom of the raft: OK. Captain Marek let us know what they discovered and that they had notified the Coast Guard of the coordinates of the raft and that we were back on our way. The "raft" was actually barrels strapped together. Lots of figuring going around about where it came from (Cuba) and where the people were going (USA)!

As I was sitting inside quilting, the staff at Ben & Jerry's were cooking waffle cones. They smelled so good all afternoon, I finally broke down and had to have an ice cream waffle cone! But we walked so many laps on the walking track before and after dinner, I figured it was okay that I'd had that waffle cone!

Sometime during the day I ran into our cabin attendant Nikali. He told me the entire month of March and part of April is spring break and the staff hate it. He said there are 4 to a cabin (yuck, can you imagine 4 men to a small cabin) and he said by the end of the week, the cabins are just nasty.

We got our fist towel animal of the cruise too!

A monkey! He hung with us the entire rest of our stay!

  1. You'd think that they would go back to checking towels out and charging for missing ones at least during Spring Break. That would at least curtail that crap.
